Don Alonso Ruiz is a native of Valle del Cauca. He arrived in this region 25 years ago to manage coffee farms with his wife. They acquired their own coffee farm 19 years ago and have lived there ever since, achieving self-employment. He has been certified as an organic producer in the project for 12 years. He is passionate about shade management and soil conservation, and uses cultural practices to manage weeds on the farm. He grows coffee and plantains together, and raises poultry, fish, vegetables, and pigs, thereby obtaining an important source of compost for his crops.
